Zhang Zhan, a Christian journalist, was sentenced to four years in prison in Shanghai.
On December 28, 2020, the Chinese former lawyer was found guilty of the charge of “picking quarrels and provoking trouble” at the court in the Pudong New Area.
In early 2020, Zhang reported the Wuhan coronavirus outbreak and local people’s lives after investigating the epicenter. The video coverage was published on Chinese and foreign websites.
The 37-year-old woman was detained on May 14 for “picking quarrels and making trouble” then was sent to the prosecutor’s office in Pudong New Area.
With an undergraduate degree from Southwestern University of Finance and Economics, she was came to Shanghai in 2010. Formally working as a lawyer, her practice license was cancelled due to her defense of human rights.
