This year's June 6 marked the 180th anniversary of the founding of the YMCA.
Founded in London in 1844 by George Williams, the Young Men's Christian Association, also called the YMCA, is a global organization with the aim of spreading Christian values. Based in Geneva, Switzerland, it benefits plenty of beneficiaries in 120 countries. As a non-governmental federation, it has grown rapidly through various activities for the youth, including accommodations, arts and humanities, etc.
On that day, Hao Zhiqiang, general secretary of the National Council of YMCAs of China, said, “Think of the world and serve the present. Look at the whole world and open up the new world. Do the little things well with the unconditional love. ”
Gui Xiaoxin, general secretary of the National Council of Young Women's Christian Association (YWCA) of China, said, “Take care of the youth of the past, empower the youth of the present, and cultivate the youth of the future. We should take the initiative to shoulder our responsibilities and tell the story of China’s social development properly. And we should make sustained efforts to promote regional and world peace. This is our unchanging commitment. YMCA of China, come on! Happy Birthday! ”
