The first-ever retreat of Jiangsu for its seminary teachers, with the theme of “Seminary operation function,” is hold in Jiangsu Theological seminary on Jul 28th-30th.
Some 50 seminary teachers from Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Anhui and North-east theological seminary attended this retreat.
Host of the retreat quoted from John`Scott that church has “Growth without depth” in churches in China, also church of china attach great importance to feelings and experience, despise reason and thinking. The Seminaries undertake the responsibility of cultivating the church. Seminary should offer education of both thought and spirituality.
The direct role of seminary is to cultivate teachers. Thus the retreat of seminary teachers offer a good chance to discuss and think about their role.
Secretary of Jiangsu Provincial CCC shared in the opening address that the new circumstances seminary is in are asking for higher standards and more responsibilities to cultivate religious talent.
The vice-chairman of Jiangsu Theological seminary shared in the concluding address that as the first-ever retreat for seminary teachers, this marks the new start of improving the quality of seminary education. We hope to strengthen the interaction of seminaries and serve the churches of China on a higher standard.
3 overseas speakers are the key figures of this retreat. They teach on the subject of “Seminary operation function.” Yu Daxin, Senior Chinese theology, a research professor, shares the theme of “Theological Education of this Time.” He talks about the impact to the Christian Faith from the secular society, and the existence of personalization of faith and theology, the marketization of church, and the fuzzy problem of Christian ethics. He calls seminary teachers to go against the stream. He stress that all of the knowledge should be connected with life.
Chaorong Chen, D.Min of Fuller Theological Seminary shares “Team Building and teacher-effect”, shedding lights on three questions: your expectations on seminary and seminary education, your identity positioning. He helps the seminary teachers to see their position in the seminary education.
Rev. Huaien Yang from Macau bible college shares the interaction among the co-workers, using the departure of Paul and Barnabas as a backdrop. He encourage seminary teachers serve according to the gift and talent received from God, and accept each other.
Besides learning from guest speakers, the attendees discuss and communicate with each other. They introduced themselves and their teaching in each seminary.
