On Sept 29-30, 2016, Yushui Church hosted the first Christian social service training class in Xinyu City, Jiangxi Province. The main purpose of the training was for "senior care" with 80 pastoral workers and congregants from the city.
The training was carried out by Hangzhou Young Women's Christian Association and was undertaken by Hangzhou Christian Council. The courses for the training were "Introduction of China's Current Senior Care and Situation," "Summary of Senior Care," and "Service Management of Senior Care."
Pastor Luo Liguang, director of Yushui Church and chairman of Yushui Three Self Committee, presided over the opening ceremony. Professor Qiu Xingmei from Zhejiang University of Traditional Chinese Medicine (ZUTCM) was invited to give a speech. Professor Qiu is a professor of Fundamental Nursing and director of teaching and research for Surgery, Humanities and Fundamental Nursing, and the person in charge of the late-stage clinic at ZUTCM. Secretary Deng Xuhong from Hangzhou Christian Young Women's Association assisted in teaching.
Even though the training was only two days, the students showed great passion for learning. They listened very carefully and took notes in class, and they also asked questions about nursing and how to deal with certain difficulties between classes. The students were unfamiliar with senior nursing at first, but with the careful explanation from the teachers, they all got some basic theory on senior nursing and mastered some nursing skills.
Pastor Li Yungen, chairman of Jiangxi CCC & TSPM, attended the meeting and presided over the closing ceremony of the training class.
Pastor Li said that this training was held according to the 2016 work arrangement of Jiangxi Christian Council, hoping to promote the development of the social workers. On one hand, the congregants were able to be deeply involved in different social works and became more professional in serving others. On the other hand, they also learned a practical skill.
