On the evening of May 31, Zhongnan Theological Seminary sent out an obituary that its alumnus, Pastor Wei Xunzong from Guangxi Province, had died at 53 from late-stage liver cancer the previous night. Similarly, Pastor Li Rongdan from Yulin, Guangxi died on May 29, also from illness.

The obituary said that Pastor Wei was born in 1964. He studied at Zhongnan Theological Seminary in 1985 and served in the Debao Region in Guangxi after his graduation. His last service was in Ezhou Church in Hubei Province in 2000.

The obituary from the CC&TSPM of Yulin, Guangxi, and Yulin Christian Gospel Church on May 29 said that Pastor Li also died at 53. He was the deputy chairman of the TSPM of Yulin and chairman of the deacon council of the church.

Li was born in Yulin, Guangxi in 1963 and started studying at Zhongnan Theological Seminary in 1995, returning to his hometown church to serve after his graduation in 1999. He had two children with his wife, who was also a preacher. He started feeling unwell a few years ago. However, he postponed going to the hospital because of church affairs. He had been taking stomach medicine when he wasn't feeling well until this April when his condition worsened. He was diagnosed with liver cancer and lung cancer with embolism, as well as hepatitis B. He died soon after, failing to respond to any medical treatment.
