On June 25, 2017, the memorial service for Shen Derong, former vice-chairman of the TSPM and chairman of the Shanghai TSPM, was held in Shanghai Zhabei Church. Over 300 people attended.

Shen was also a former chairman of the board of East China Theological Seminary, a member of the board of both the YMCA China and the Amity Foundation, and a director of China Foundation for Disabled Persons. Devoted to the three-self church, he served the church faithfully, cultivating many young and middle-aged church workers and also engaging in social activities. According to his will, his body will be donated for medical research.

In the service, Jin Wei, president of YWCA China, Bao Xiaohong, a senior worker of the CCC & TSPM, and Cai Weiwei, vice-president of the TSPM, recalled what they learned from Shen. As an amiable and respectable church leader, Shen heard sermons quietly in every church service. At an old age, he insisted on attending services in Huxi Church in the summer.
