After severe flooding occurred in Hunan, Changsha South Church called on prayer and donation for the affected areas.
According to its official WeChat account, the church received tithes and offerings made last Sunday worthy of 90,000 yuan(13,000 USD) that was donated to the disaster-hit areas including local churches and Christian gatherings in Ningxiang, a county-level city in Hunan. Meanwhile, more than 2800 pieces of clothing and 68 pairs of shoes were also donated.
On July 7, 2017, Department of Ethnic & Religious Affairs of Changsha launched a fundraising campaign among the religious community. The church gave a donation that would be used to help a badly damaged town in Ningxiang that was hit by the worst flood since 1957.
It is estimated that 56% of the population, or 815,000 people, have been affected in the county. In addition, a local church and three gatherings were badly damaged. Ningxiang Gospel Church suffered economic losses of roughly 500,000 yuan. Brother Tao Mingjun, the head of Xieleqiao Gathering, hurt his legs when he salvaged the church property. Huitang Gathering has become dangerous due to the flood and the reconstruction will cost over one million yuan. Lots of mud was washed into the other two gatherings.
On July 3, the president and chairman of Changsha CCC&TSPM led the staff of the two organizations to comfort volunteers at the front line of relief with porridge and mineral water.
