On August 7, 2017, a young preacher named Yu Jie was hospitalized due to kidney necrosis and left-sided heart failure. Getting a "critically ill notice" from the hospital, he received hemodialysis in the ICU and had to be spoon fed.

The 28-year-old full-time preacher served in Liyang Church located in Changzhou, Jiangsu. He graduated from Jiangsu Theological Seminary in 2015 with high grades. His wife Xue Lu is also a preacher and they have a child of just over five months. Since he grew up in a poor family, he suffered from chronic nephritis and was treated for some time. Due to the high treatment cost,  his treatment came to an abrupt halt and his condition deteriorated after a year or two.

Good news from his wife said on August 12 that he got better and could sit up to have breakfast. The second day the author went to visit him and was informed that he was out of danger, being observed and treated.

The subsequent treatment will depend on the advice of his doctor. Xue said, "A kidney transplant will be the last resort. May God's will be done in him. I'm grateful for the prayer from Christians. This is really God's grace!" She added that he is having dialytic treatment.

She was moved by the prayer and donations from the many believers. "We don't know each other, but we form one body because of God. Out of love for God, everyone cares about and loves us. This is really God's grace. A sister called and said that she wanted to donate a kidney. of course, I disagreed since she is also precious in God's eyes. I can't hurt others just to save my husband. However, I was very touched by it. How could we receive this undeserved grace? "

On August 13, two pastors and two sisters from Jiangsu Theological Seminary visited him, giving him 50,000 yuan on behalf of the seminary.  Some churches of Jiangsu, mainly the ones where the seminary graduates served, shared Yu's situation and launched special donation campaigns for his disease.

Rev. Zhang Kai, one of the visitors, told Yu, "Take care of yourself. Feed and care for your body since preachers are mortal too." He added that one of his relatives passed away of disease due to inadequate health consciousness.

Yu shared that he was not health conscious. When he felt unwell late at night, not wanting to bother the pastor, he called his mother. Later he was sent to the hospital by his church's pastor and co-workers. He said that he decided to be admitted to the hospital because the doctor insisted that he should be hospitalized, or he would have simply endured the pain.
