On Nov 18, over 170 scholars on religious studies attended the opening of the 2017 "Conference on the Study of Christianity" at The Central Institute of Socialism, Beijing.
Five forums were held at the symposium: Nestorianism, Catholicism, Orthodoxy, Protestantism, and Bible Studies. Six representatives gave keynote speeches regarding these five subjects.
Professor Zhang Zhigang, director of the Department of Religious Studies of Peking University, gave a speech on "Study of K. H. Ting's Christianity of Sinicization." Professor Ge Chengyong, former editor-in-chief of Cultural Relics Press, talked about "The Characteristics of Nestorian Ceremonial Chanting from Unearthed Documents." Liu Jinguang, publisher of the magazine China Religion spoke about Martin Luther's Reformation and the Sinicization of Christianity. Wang Meixiu, of the Institute of Religion of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, shared the "flash mob" relationship between Chinese Catholics and the Vatican based on the book Conference of Chinese Catholic Representatives issued in 1957. Professor Li Chichang, of the Center for Judaic and Inter-Religious Studies of Shandong University, discussed "Li Rongfang's Bible Study From the Explanation of Texts and Coexistence." Professor Xu Fenglin, of the Department of Philosophy and Religious Studies of Peking University, shared the theological subject The Triads by Gregory Palamas."
The five forums were held in the afternoon on Nov 18 and 19, during which Protestant research covered six meetings on the theme "Reformation and Sinicization of Christianity," titled "Protestant Reformation Theory," "Ethics and Practice of Protestant Reformation," "Reformation and Chinese Society," "History and Presence of Chinese Christianity," "Christian Philosophy," and "Sinicization of Christianity Under Comparative Perspective."
On Nov 20, Delegates of the five forums gave closing remarks.
