Last week, a team of the Evangelical Church in Germany(EKD)'s social welfare Diakonie network visited Jiangsu.
On March 8, the five-person delegation led by its president Ulrich Lilie paid a visit to the Jiangsu Theological Seminary, Nanjing Union Theological Seminary, Amity Printing Company, and Nanjing Saint Paul's Church, according to the website of CCC&TSPM. They talked with the leaders of the Jiangsu CCC&TSPM on topics like interfaith cooperation in social service, theological publicity of social service, and voluntary work in community service.
Two days later, they toured the Hudson Taylor Memorial Church in Zhenjiang and communicated with the head of the city's Christian social service commission, according to Home of the Reed, a Christian civil charity organization in Zhenjiang. Currently, more than 200 foreign students attend services in the church.
The team also exchanged ideas with the Home of the Reed, giving the latter an invitation to visit Germany. The home has undertaken a project that focuses on elderly care, disabled children, environmental care, and drug prohibition with the Amity Foundation.
Owning over 20,000 social service organizations of more than 500,000 members, the Diakonie network with an "umbrella" structure carries out various kinds of social service.
