On June 15, 2018, the Suzhou CCC&TSPM held a lecture on "Future Evolution of Modern Christian Theology". Dr. Chen Yongtao, associate professor from Nanjing Union Theological Seminary, was the speaker.
Dr. Chen started the lecture with the features of changes in global Christianity in the past decade, reminding the participants to be aware of this era of great change, a time of regional shift of Christianity, diverse presentation, and the transformation of thinking paradigms.
He sorted out several characteristics of some key phrases in the history of church thought, especially its evolution and changes in the recent fifty years under the context of western culture and politics. Dr. Chen analyzed and looked into the future of post-modern Christianity, post-secularism in the West, and the development of Christianity in the Third World, pointing out what they meant for modern Chinese Christianity.
He added that since Christianity is an ecumenical faith and the church is holy and universal, Christians should have a global and historical perspective. It was necessary for Christians to know the contexts of faith life and gospel mission and their changes in a rapidly changing time and society.
