On March 16, 2019, after three months' renovation, the Gospel Church in Pudong New Area, Shanghai was dedicated.
Initially named the "Independent Gospel Church in Lannidu, Pudong", the original church was built in 1948 and resumed services in 1981 after the Cultural Revolution. At the end of 1997, it was relocated to Zhulin Road, Lujiazui, the financial and trade zone, owing to the development and construction of Pudong.
The new church was put into use in Oct. 2004 and then went through a facelift and renovation in 2018 at a cost of about 3.01 million yuan.
At the dedication service, Rev. Tian Feng, in charge of the church, said that several changes had occurred in the church's history. Last year, the local construction project caused a large crack in front of the church's entrance. The staff ended up with no apparent solution after negotiating with the project's different parties. In the past year, the senior, middle-aged, and younger members all prayed for the construction and devoted their time and energies to it.
The pastor stated that it was precious to see this connection amongst the over 200 members of the church in Shanghai because all this was from God.
Patterned after the theme of "Noah's ark" and "being one", the new church includes a white sanctuary symbolizing God's holiness and a blue yard signifying the church as the "ark" in the ocean.
A pastor urged both the congregation to care for orphans and widows in difficulties and the staff to be faithful workers. She emphasized the church's vocational ministry as important in being able to help believers be salt and light in the workplace.
