The opening ceremony for the 2020-2021 academic year was held in the auditorium of Jiangsu Theological Seminary.
On the morning of October 20th, Rev. Zhang Keyun, chairman of Jiangsu CC&TSPM, president of Jiangsu Theological Seminary and Rev. Zhang Kequan, deputy president of Jiangsu Theological Seminary, attended the opening. Dean Wang Jie presided over the ceremony. Some faculty members and all 2020 first year students participated in the ceremony. (Returning students registered for class on September 20).
The ceremony began with the national anthem. One hundred first year students from all over the province participated in the opening ceremony, according to the WeChat account of Jiangsu Theological Seminary.
Rev. Zhang Keyun first introduced the history of the Jiangsu Theological Seminary, and also mentioned the challenges of running the school during the coronavirus pandemic. He said that Jiangsu Theological Seminary has always had the mission of cultivating high-quality students to serve Jiangsu churches. The primary source of pastors for churches in the province, since 1998, more than 2,000 graduates have gone on to work in churches all over Jiangsu province
Rev. Zhang put forward three things he hoped for: First, we must work to serve together. Second, we must be firm in our mission and move forward with determination. Third, we must love each other and ensure the campus is secure.
At the ceremony, Pastor Li Jiyin spoke on behalf of teachers, and Ji Bing spoke on behalf of freshmen.
The predecessor of the Seminary, Jiangsu Bible College was established in 1998 and was upgraded to the seminary level in 2012 with the approval of the State Bureau of Religious Affairs. Currently, there are two branch campuses in Suqian and Suzhou, with the main campus in Nanjing.
