CCC&TSPM held a video conference with leaders of the Anglican Diocese of Singapore on May 18.
Due to COVID-19, Rt Rev. Titus Chung did not have the opportunity to visit China, after taking over the post of Anglican Bishop of Diocese of Singapore in October 2020, according to CCC&TSPM.
Pastor Wu Wei, president of the Chinese Christian Council (CCC), said the Anglican Diocese of Singapore had done much meaningful work to support churches in China after the reform and opening up. He claimed that Chinese churches were now thinking about how to better provide pastoral care to believers and equip pastoral staff, along with the transformation of “Christianity in China” to “the Chinese Christianity”. He also looked forward to future sharing of experience with China ministries and the deepening of cooperation and exchanges between the two sides.
Rev. Shen Xuebin, deputy president of CCC, shared the basic situation of church ministry in China since the outbreak of the virus.
Bishop Chung said that through this meeting, they could better understand the ministry of the Chinese Church, and expected to comprehensively learn about the Chinese Church in future communication. Archdeacon Low Jee King shared the challenges the Singapore churches faced when carrying out ministries during the pandemic. Bishop John Chew Hiang Chea, the retired eighth archbishop of Singaporean Anglican bishop recalled the exchanges and cooperation between the Anglican Diocese of Singapore and the CCC&TSPM since 1991 when they established relations.
The two sides also exchanged ideas about social service ministry and the impact of the coronavirus pandemic on the church, adding that they would continue to pray for the end of the pandemic and the resumption of mutual visits and in-person communication.
