The Heavenly Melody Choir held a live concert, "The Calling Music," with the theme "Freedom I Want," on July 9, 2021.
The Taiwanese Christian ministry wrote on social media, "Looking out the window, planning on who I am going to meet and what I want to do... The day the COVID-19 pandemic stops, I'll be happy to go! 'What is not expected is not love, and what cannot be endured is not called love'. What I'm looking forward to is not a love affair, but the freedom I want! On July 9, at 7 p.m., let's enjoy the freedom of the mind from hymns."
Founded in 1963 by Dr. Doris Brougham (known as Teacher Peng Meng-hui) in the United States and affiliated with the Association for the Propagation of Christianity, the Heavenly Melody Choir is the first full-time Chinese Christian choir in Taiwan. It pioneered the publication of sacred music and produced the "Heavenly Melody" television program, which was the first religious gospel music program in Taiwan and the first Christian choir to visit the United States.
As the first poetry group in China to engage in cross-cultural missionary work by learning to record poetry in different languages, the group has been recognized by the Golden Melody Award initiated by the Ministry of Culture of Taiwan in 1990. The choir is often invited to sing and share in churches, schools, hospitals, prisons, and other places. Since its inception, the ministry has been traveling and singing in more than 30 countries around the world.
