The Chenguang Volunteer Team from the Jiaojiang Church in Taizhou carried out an activity of visiting the elderly.
A few days ago, Chenguang volunteers went door to door to visit the elderly, including veterans of the Liberation War, veterans of the Self-defense War, retired police officers, teachers, reclamation team members, young people who support the border areas, veteran corps, elderly farmers, retired workers, and other contributors to the founding of the Republic of China.
Volunteers sent mooncakes to the elderly to taste, wishing them a happy Mid-Autumn Festival which falls on September 21 this year in advance. Volunteers chatted with the elderly face to face, asking about their diet, daily life, and physical condition. Sitting beside an old man named Zhang who once participated in the Korean War, listening to his stories about defending the country.
When sitting next to the old policemen, volunteers would listen to their stories about the achievements of the comprehensive management of social security. The old teachers shared stories about teaching many different students. The “educated" youth who were sent to live and work in rural areas in the 1950s, 1960s, or 1970s and the reclamation team members, volunteers told their dedication of reclamation effort, border area support, and going to the countryside.
The church said that every old man was a historical storybook and talking with the elderly could make volunteers gain wisdom and cherish their work more.
