A Guangdong church held a thanksgiving and praise meeting to mark the 120th anniversary of its founding and the 41st anniversary of its reopening.

In Guangzhou Zion Church, choirs and orchestras last Saturday presented hymns successively, expressing their reverence, gratitude, and praise to God.

During the praise meeting, Senior Pastor Yang Yongchun gave a sermon with the title "Rise, Shine!", reviewing the church’s founding and ups and downs which showed God’s grace and care. He encouraged the congregation to transcend the tribulations in life by relying on God, rise up and shine for the Lord.

Finally, the meeting ended with the hymn tune Threefold Amen.

Founded in 1901 by Rev. Yu Xisheng, a Chinese American from the Methodist Episcopal Church, the church was rebuilt in 1936 with the name "Zion Church", which meant "God’s Temple". Closed after the outbreak of the Cultural Revolution in 1966, it resumed gatherings in 1980 and now has 1,800 Sunday worshippers.
