Churches in Sichuan, Inner Mongolia Suspend In-Person Gatherings Amid COVID-19 Spike

A church in Sichuan and another church in Inner Mongolia have both suspended gatherings due to local outbreaks of coronavirus.

On February 24, the Centennial Gracious Light Church in Chengdu issued a notice on its official WeChat account, saying that in accordance with pandemic prevention and control restrictions, it will be closed from that day on until March 11. It is expected to open again on March 12, with Sunday services being held virtually during the suspension period.

The Health Commission of the Sichuan Province reported that nine new confirmed cases of COVID-19 were detected in Sichuan between 0:00 and 24:00 on February 23, all of which were in Chengdu, including six local cases and three imported cases.

On its official WeChat account, Ulanhot  Church in Inner Mongolia announced on Thursday that due to a spike of coronavirus cases, it will suspend collective religious activities from that day forth. People are still waiting to be informed when exactly the church services will be resumed. During the suspension, the church will upload the audios to the WeChat account and related groups.

The People's Government of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region reported 40 new local COVID-19 cases on Wednesday, including 37 in Hohhot and three in Baotou.
