Recently, Gaoxin Church in Gaoxin District, Xinyu City, Jiangxi Province, held an activity themed “Celebrating Dragon Boat Festival with Fragrant Reed Leaves” to celebrate the festival.
The Dragon Boat Festival, also called the Duanwu Festival, falls on the fifth day of the fifth lunar month in the Chinese calendar (on June 10 this year). People celebrate it to commemorate a great patriotic poet named Yuan Qu by eating rice dumplings (also called zongzi) and racing dragon boats.
With cleaned reed leaves, soaked glutinous rice, and flavored mincemeat, co-workers came together to make zongzi. After folding the leaves, the sisters put glutinous rice and mincemeat in them and wrapped them to make zongzi.
A participant said, “The rice dumplings made by sisters are really beautiful with clear edges and corners. With such a fast pace in making zongzi, sisters must be good at doing many things at home.”
At the same time, they exchanged their skills and experience in making rice dumplings and shared their interesting stories in daily life with laughter.
