Last Monday, Taiyuan Municipal CC&TSPM hosted a lecture on Christianity and Chinese traditional culture at Qiaotou Street Church in Shanxi Province, attended by 90 participants, including members of the host organization, pastoral staff, and volunteer preachers.

According to Taiyuan TSPM, the February 3 lecture featured Professor Ning Junwei from the School of Philosophy at Shanxi University, who lectured on "Samuel Pollard and the Spread of Christianity Among the Miao People in Wumeng Mountain."

Samuel Pollard, a British missionary, arrived in Shimenkan, Weining, Guizhou Province, in 1905 and dedicated his life to the Miao people through missionary work, education, healthcare, and sports until his passing.

Professor Ning approached the topic from a historical perspective, beginning with the spread of Christianity among the Miao ethnic group in Wumeng Mountain. He covered the division of Christian churches among the Miao people, the establishment of Christian church schools, and the development of Christian social services in the region, as well as the contributions to sports in Guizhou. While recounting Samuel Pollard’s missionary work in Shimenkan, he also reflected on the relationship between Christianity and Chinese culture through Pollard's achievements. Additionally, Ning highlighted how Pollard made targeted efforts in education, healthcare, and sports based on the realities in Shimenkan, which offers valuable insights for today’s considerations of the sinicization of Christianity.
