From May 1 to 9, Shanghai hosted the exhibition series entitled "Jesus' Fourteen Stations of the Cross" in the city's Hongkou Sacred Heart of Jesus Church.
The collection done by painter Chen Hu includes Chinese-style wash paintings that depicted scenes based from the Bible while exemplifying them through Chinese traditional landscape painting styles.
In this exhibition series, Chen used turquoise landscapes as the background of each scene then as the suffering began, he added red elements to express sadness and the love Christ held for the people as he laid down His life for us.
The artist said that he didn't deny the significance and value of his work although he said that everything seems unnatural and nondescript.
He also said: "As a Christian, I regard it as a kind of good fortune and glory that I can express faith or my understanding of faith with my brush. As a painter, I think it's a sort of innovation and thinking of the development of China's modern art to blend other thoughts or other types of culture into Chinese traditional wash paintings."
