The Palace Museum in Beijing is currently looking for new ways to promote China's traditional culture and after signing up with Alibaba to ease up ticket sales for guests, the museum has also signed a three-year deal with China's internet giant Tencent.
In the partnership with Tencent, the two groups will be working on a new way to promote Chinese culture with the use of emoticons in Tencent's instant messenger QQ, games, animation and even literature. With these mediums, the two groups will incorporate stories from traditional Chinese stories to introduce them to the Chinese youth.
According to CEO Pony Ma, the partnership has brought together an opportunity that will open collaboration of new ideas for traditional culture and social media to flourish.
Tencent and the Palace Museum has also been working on other mediums to introduce traditional culture, such as competitive events like the "Next Idea Tencent Creativity Competition." In the competition, applicants are asked to design a new QQ emoticon set that would depict cultural emotions the users can learn from and enjoy.
