Media representatives, colleagues, artists, and the World Gospel Powerhouse team gathered at Ukhozi FM Studios in Durban on September 12 for an press briefing led by the Executive Producer of the Crown Gospel Music Awards, Bishop Mpendulo Nkambule. The attendees came together to discuss the highly anticipated 17th edition of this award.
During the briefing, the Executive Producer expressed gratitude to the media for their unwavering support throughout Zanele Mbokazi’s distinguished tenure. “Your dedication and commitment to amplifying the voices of gospel artists and celebrating this vibrant community have been invaluable,” said the Executive Producer. A vow was made to continue fostering this collaboration with the media as a way to honor Zanele Mbokazi’s remarkable contributions to the industry.
The Executive Producer emphasized the Board’s unwavering commitment to upholding the high standards that Zanele Mbokazi championed during her time at the helm of the awards. “We acknowledge the legacy left behind by Zanele and pledge to build upon it, ensuring that the Crown Gospel Music Awards continue to shine as a beacon of excellence in the gospel music genre,” they stated.
Bishop Mpendulo Nkambule also expressed appreciation for the ongoing support from the sponsors and partners of the Crown Gospel Music Awards, recognizing their integral role in making this historical event possible. In a significant announcement, it was confirmed that this year's awards ceremony will take place in Gauteng, ensuring a convenient and accessible location for all guests, participants, and fans of gospel music.
“We are excited to welcome everyone to Johannesburg South Africa, where we will gather to celebrate the incredible talents within our gospel community,” said Siyanda Mandla who is the creative director of the awards.
Additionally, the date of the event was reiterated, highlighting that the awards will take place on 24 November 2024 in Johannesburg at Gallagher Convention Centre, consistent with the traditional calendar schedule. Sthembiso Mtshali the spokesperson made it very clear that this year’s awards hold particular significance. “As we come together to celebrate the achievements of gospel artists, we also take this opportunity to honor Zanele Mbokazi’s memory. Our goal is to ensure that this year’s awards are the most memorable and impactful music awards not only in South Africa but in the entire African continent.”
To further this mission, Bishop Mpendulo Nkambule, an Executive Board Member, was invited to share details about the schedule of activities planned for the year, emphasizing the various initiatives that will contribute to a vibrant celebration of gospel music.
“We have a professional team that has been working with Zanele over the years and we are confident that they will deliver a world-class event to celebrate gospel musicians not only in South Africa but all over the world."
The awards are open to international gospel artists in the US and across Africa and Europe who have African diaspora to participate and compete for the ‘Best of Africa Gospel category’. This international category is still open for submissions and closes on 10 October 2024.
In conclusion, a list of events and activities such as the Nominee's media announcement party on 30 October will take place at a private location in Johannesburg.
