"You have heard me teach things that have been confirmed by many reliable witnesses. Now teach these truths to other trustworthy people who will be able to pass them on to others. " - 2 Timothy 2:2
Mentoring and discipling does not mean we have to have our life together or perfect in order to take part in teaching or mentoring. It is coming alongside someone and sharing a wee bit of our own wisdom gained over the years from different aspects.
Quite possibly, just our own presence alone of consistent connection builds up another and keeps our spirits high through the difficult times. If there is someone you are constantly pouring your knowledge and experience and passing along truths, then you are into the right path of discipling.
There are four parts of the verse from 2 Timothy 2:2 that we need to understand:
1. Content of the Gospel:
"And the things"
What are those things that God has passed unto us? What is He trying to teach us? Do we ask ourselves these questions?
2. Training of others:
"Which you have heard from me in the presence of many witnesses"
The gospel needs to be communicated to others. Being a pastor means you need to humbly work for God and with other people.
3. Teachability of our hearts:
"These entrust to faithful men"
How well can we pass the truth given and provided by God? Sometimes, we need to be aware on who are those people that we need to teach. Those faithful and trustworthy people because there are some who will get offended if you teach them yourself.
4. Reproduction of Disciples
"Who will be able to teach others also."
We need to multiply, especially those people who are doing good and is according to law of God.
