What does the Bible say about friendships? Are there any Bible verses that give us guidelines about how and with whom should Christian spend their time with? What kind of company should Christians keep? Should Christians avoid certain people? Can Christians be friends with non-believers?
Read James 4:4 and 2 Corinthians 6:14-15 because if you are asking the questions above, you are genuinely wondering whether what is right or wrong.
James 4:4
"Adulterers and adulteresses! Do you not know that friendship with the world is enmity with God? Whoever therefore wants to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God."
2 Corinthians 6:14-15
"Do not be unequally yoked together with unbelievers. For what fellowship has righteousness with lawlessness? And what communion has the light with darkness? And what accord has Christ with Belial? Or what part has a believer with an unbeliever?"
As Christians, our goal is to be part of Christ, to be pure and spotless and worthy to be with Him together.
Choosing your friends
Every decision you make should be according to your end goal. Remind yourself if the decision that you will make will help you to have eternal life with God. This is the same with who you want to keep as a company. If you want to get close to God, you must choose friends who also want the same thing or help you to achieve your salvation/
Colossians 3:1-4
"If then you were raised with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ is, sitting at the right hand of God. Set your mind on things above, not on things of the earth. For you died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. When Christ who is our life appears, then you also will appear with Him in glory."
Also, you need to keep your heart pure for God to show you what is wrong and right, who you need to be with or not.
Philippians 4:8
"Finally brethren whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy - meditate on these things."
