A message from my father reached me that he worried about the situation on the Korean Peninsula. Well, I know that his intention is not concerning the political situation in the Peninsula. Instead, he wishes to tell me in an indirect way that he cared about my security and felt it embarrassing to convey his worry directly. My response was that I was safe and good here, and for him not to worry about me.
What puts a country under such tremendous pressure? Many Korean friends believe that the president should be primarily responsible for this problem.
Of course, the president is one of the causes. However, what counts more is the country's spiritual decline from a spiritual perspective. It reminded me on how the media offered positive coverage of Park Geun-hye, reporting that she, who suffered a lot since her childhood, was different from others and how she attained a victorious life through prayer even under those circumstance before the exposure of the Choi Soon-sil Gate scandal.
At that time, many believers around me preached the Gospel by giving the example of Park's Christian faith. Meanwhile, the news that Peng Liyuan, the Chinese First Lady, was a Christian, was highly publicized by many Chinese Christians. Hearing this, some sisters were even moved with tears.
I asked them, "How did you know her Christian identity?" "Because she sang the song "Hallelujah"." They answered.
As a matter of fact, it was no wonder that she sang it because she is a professional singer. What's more, many non-Christian singers also sing this song for voice practice. So we should not tell whether she believes in Jesus or not by just a song.
A friend of mine is keen to share that those celebrities and entertainment stars are Christians and use it as a primary means of evangelization. When I started to study the Bible, I was also enthusiastic in preaching Christianity through the examples of Christian famous people. But, as my spiritual life grows, I don't need to support my God with those great names, because the foundation of the Gospel lies in Jesus, and the other people and matters are considered as redundancies.
Jesus claimed explicitly, "I am the way and the truth and the life." (John 14:6) He is everything.
What does the Christian faith of celebrities have to do with me and my Lord? Everyone is the same in the eyes of the Lord. There is no division of so-called celebrities and ordinary people. Every life, a wonder created by the Lord, is equally precious to Him.
We can promote the beliefs of celebrities as good models, as witnesses for the Lord. But they should never be the foundation and focus, because people always make mistakes while God never does. Therefore, spread the good news by focusing on Jesus. May each of us, a member of the body of Christ, become the examples of the next generation with the aroma of Christ, running for the way of the Lord.
