You know the feeling when you really want to go and get some sleep but you've had just a little too much coffee earlier in the evening? Yes, the tossing and turning, the sighs that say, "Ugh, I want to sleep already!" and the endless ideas that conveniently pass their way through our thoughts. Oh, not to mention embarassing past moments that say "Hi," once in a while.

But then, why not make use of all those floating thoughts and turn a sleepless night into something that is actually beneficial for future? Can't sleep anyway, so better yet, make the most out of the moment.

Here are seven ideas for you to turn your sleeplessness into productiveness.

1. Plan The Future & Set Some Goals

What better time to do some planning than a time when the whole neighborhood is asleep and it's all peace and quiet? So, get up and get a piece of paper (or whatever is convenient for you to write on), and write down your goals. In a book I read by John Maxwell, he says that those who write down their plans and goals are more likely to accomplish them. If you don't have any, yet, it's time to assess yourself concerning what you wanna do on the days ahead.

2. Catch Up On Work or Work Ahead

If you're like me with a job that I can do at home, catch up or work ahead. But if your job is away from home, do what you can with what you have right there in your bedroom. Just do something to make your job a little easier for the day.

3. Read

"You become what you behold," said Dr. Bruce Allen. The books that we read impart unto us, so what we read become who we are. Books by John C. Maxwell are my current favorite because they are empowering and inspiring; and if not books like his, I feast on publications by great men and women of God. I choose to read books that are written by people who I want to become like because then, I get to have a piece of their greatness in my heart. It's important to filter what we feed our inner self.

4. Develop A Skill

You're already up anyway. Just be careful not to wake up your neighbors.

5. Work Out

Why not? There's no more "I have no time" excuse. You may even get better sleep afterwards.

6. Talk To God

I read somewhere that when you can't sleep, God is waiting for you to talk to Him. Read the Bible, pray...or just open up your heart before Him. Maybe there's something that He wants to tell you but He can't get to you during the day because you're so busy, so He waits until there's no more clutter so that He has you all to Himself. Time spent with God is never wasted.

7. Do What You Can

There's a lot of stuff that can replace the idleness of sleeplessness into something productive. Find out what you want to do, then do it. Take the chance and make the most of it.
