Ethos Institute for Public Theology held its annual virtual conference “The Triune God” on September 25, exploring the centrality of the Church's faith in the doctrine and its significance in the lives of Christians.
Formed by the National Council of Churches of Singapore, Trinity Theological College and The Bible Society of Singapore in 2014, Ethos Institute for Public Christianity “serves to serve church and society by engaging contemporary issues and trends from the Christian perspective”, according to its official website.
Moderated by Dr Tan Loe Joo, a lecturer in systematic and historical theology at Trinity Theological College, the half-a-day conference included four Trinity-related speeches and a panel discussion.
As the doctrine of the Trinity is foundational to the Christian faith, “this doctrine remains obscure and irrelevant. This conference explores the centrality of the Church’s faith in the Triune God, and its significance in the lives of Christians,” the institutes claims.
Dr Tan Seng Kong, director of Spiritual Formation & Educational Resources and a lecturer in systematic and spiritual theology of the Biblical Graduate School of Theology, gave a speech titled “Trinity in Early Christianity”,
With the title of “Trinity in Contemporary Christianity”, the second lecture was addressed by Dr Edmund Fong, lecturer in systematic theology of Trinity Theological College.
Dr Leonard Sidharta, an associate professor in theological studies of Singapore Bible College, delivered the speech “Trinity and Other Faiths”.
The last speech “Trinity and the Christian Life” was given by Dr Lewis Winkler, a lecturer in theological and historical studies of East Asia School of Theology.
