Warmest Easter greetings from the World Evangelical Alliance! The resurrection is foundational to our Christian faith it validates who Jesus claimed to be: the Son of God, the Messiah, who is worthy of our wholehearted worship and witness.
Looking at what is happening in the world, it is scary. We see destruction, desolation, death, darkness. Many people are living in fear and hopelessness because of the instability of life, instability caused by sin in the world.
But in the midst of overwhelming threats and uncertainties in the world, we believers do not lose heart because we have a Living Hope. 1 Peter 1:3 says “Praise be to the God and father of our Lord Jesus Christ. In His great Mercy he has given us New Birth into a living hope, through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead.” Peter wrote this message to Christians who were suffering persecution, who were scattered far from their homeland. He wrote to encourage them to stay true to their faith in Jesus during their time of suffering. The resurrection of Jesus is the foundation of their hope. A hope that is sure and lives on. The believers’ hope is solid and secure. Hebrews 6:19 says we have this hope as an anchor for the soul firm and secure. Jesus our victorious Lord, our living Hope keeps us going through difficult experiences and fear of what the future holds and so we sing:
Because He lives I can face tomorrow
Because He lives all fear is gone
Because I know He holds the future
And life is worth the living just because he leaves
Hebrews 10:23 admonishes us, “let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for He Who promise is faithful.”
My dear brothers and sisters, in this dark world, may our lives shine brightly and point people to our mighty savior Jesus our living hope.
