The Eric Liddell 100 is delighted to announce an inspiring, world-first, exhibition commemorating Eric Liddell will be unveiled at the Scottish Parliament this summer, marking the centenary of his iconic Olympic gold medal victory in Paris in 1924.
The free exhibition will launch on the 25th July and will run until the 12th September in the Main Hall at the Scottish Parliament in Edinburgh.
It will offer a unique opportunity for visitors to explore the life and legacy of Eric Liddell – the Flying Scotsman and 1924 Olympic champion – alongside other legends from the Scottish Sporting Hall of Fame and Scottish athletes competing in the 2024 Olympics.
The Exhibition will showcase the remarkable life of the Flying Scotsman, Eric Liddell. From his sporting achievements and success at the 1924 Olympics made famous by the Oscar-winning film Chariots of Fire, to the lesser-known story of his life in China, it will consider how the values of passion, compassion and integrity shaped Eric’s life.
One hundred years on from his iconic win at the Paris Olympics, the exhibition also reflects on what Eric Liddell’s legacy means today. By highlighting Eric’s achievements, and those of Scotland’s other sporting stars, it aims to encourage and inspire the next generation.

The way that Eric lived his life and died, means that he had very few belongings to pass on, however we are grateful that through the support of his family and others, we have been able to bring together a unique collection of artifacts to display as part of the exhibition. The Eric Liddell Exhibition is open Mon-Sat from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM (last entry 4.30pm) and is free to the public, with no ticket required.
