The WEA is grateful to confirm that the General Assembly for 2025 will be held in Seoul, Korea on 27–31 October 2025.
On 15 November 2024, the WEA signed an MOU with the Seoul Organizing Committee to organize the General Assembly in Seoul in 2025. As a unity movement, the WEA looks forward to working with an organizing committee that represents the evangelical churches in Korea. This unity has been modelled through co-chairs Rev. Junghyun John Oh, member of the Hapdong denomination (Prebysterian); Rev. Younghoon Lee, member of the Assemblies of God denomination; and others. The Korea Evangelical Fellowship (KEF), a fellowship of pastors across denominations which is a member of the Asia Evangelical Alliance, is also playing a key role in the Seoul Organizing Committee.
After the signing of the MOU, an inaugural thanksgiving ceremony was held at CCMM to launch planning for the WEA Seoul 2025 General Assembly. The thanksgiving ceremony was presided over by Pastor Seok-soon Im, President of the KEF. Rev. Younghoon Lee delivered a sermon on “The Absolute Authority of Scripture,” based on 2 Timothy 3:16–17. Dr. Goodwill Shana, Executive Chair of the WEA, provided a congratulatory message. The benediction was given by the former chair of the WEA International Council, Dr. Sangbok Kim.
The thanksgiving service was followed by a welcome address from Dr. Frank Hinkelmann, Vice President of the WEA, and then a press briefing and discussion. The WEA conveyed its gratitude to the Seoul Organizing Committee and reaffirmed its evangelical, conservative and orthodox values.
The WEA is constitutionally expected to hold its General Assembly every 6 years. The tentative theme for the 2025 General Assembly is “The Gospel for Everyone by 2033.”
National alliance leaders, representatives from women and youth as well as affiliated members and partners are invited to this event. Logistical and registration details will be distributed in due time.
