Founded in July 1906 and being completed in September 1910, St. Ignatius Cathedral in Xujiahui District became the first Catholic church in Shanghai, once known as "the first Cathedral in the Far East".

Located at No. 158 Puxi Road,  the church is modeled due to French medieval Gothic architecture, with the Catholic Bishop's Mansion of the Shanghai Diocese and a nunnery on one side of it.
