Two house churches in Guangzhou were banned by the local government this month.
On August 24, the Civil Affairs Bureaus of Panyu District in Guangzhou, Guangdong Province, said that the Bible Reformed Church had been shut down "without registration." The notice explained that the church illegally "conducted activities in the name of a social organization" and was considered an illegal social organization according to Article 32 of the Regulations on the Registration and Administration of Social Organizations and Article 2 and Article 9 of the Provisional Measures for the Prohibition of Illegal Civil Organizations.
On August 19 under the same circumstances, the Civil Affairs Bureaus of Panyu District also closed Huajing Church.
