On August 9, Gloria Tang Tsz-kei, also known on stage as G.E.M., officially released the debut song "Gloria" of her new album, which opened the prelude to the series.
G.E.M.’s brand-new album of the musical series Revelation is based on the concept of Afterland. The music video of the opening track "Gloria" reveals a totally different world of a mixture of fantasy and reality where the devout heart is strengthened despite the shattered hope, which provides an immersive experience to the audience in the grand Afterland who will marvel at the fantastic visual wonders.
Her first musical series by the same name Revelation presents every piece of the entire album in the form of a series. Being the main creator, screenwriter, and producer for the first time, the Christian singer jointly created a 14-episode music video for the musical series with the director Lin Bo, an all-around video creator.
A seemingly independent music video for every song in the album is actually an indispensable part of a continuous narrative of a saga. G.E.M. said frankly, "In this era of fragmentation, very few audiences are patient enough to listen to a song completely. Yet, I have 14 revelations that I consider extremely precious to share with them. Eventually, I came up with a new type of musical series which hopefully can attract the audience to listen to each piece of the album carefully.”
Therefore, G.E.M. started script-writing for the first time in her life, creating her first original story.
G.E.M. is one of the most influential female singers in Mainland China, Hong Kong, and Taiwan. In 2008, debuting in Hong Kong at the age of 16, she not only conquered a large number of music fans with her powerful and penetrating voice but also swept awards on many pop music charts. Having achieved remarkable results, many of her albums won quite many professional pop chart awards. In addition to a series of domestic performances, G.E.M. also added a two-year global tour to her rich performance experience. At the age of 27, she has already held over 140 performances in Australia, Canada, Malaysia, New Zealand, the United States, and the United Kingdom. Her undeniable musical influence landed her on the Forbes "30 Under 30" list, also qualified her as the winner of the Breakthrough Prizes (a foundation in partnership with NASA), and got her included in the BBC 100 Women, affirming her contribution and power in world music.
The lyrics of her new song describe a girl named Gloria living in a dark world before dawn. Despite the difficult circumstances, she believes that there is no fear in love which constantly flows to overcome any other power. Full of ardent hope for the future, she can also sense God is willing to carry her burden, comfort her, and take her to fly at any time. She believes that His love can lift up a collapsing world and never leave her alone. With patience in her heart, she hopes that He who grants love will come back soon.
In the video, magnificent scenes reenacting the story of Moses splitting the Red Sea in the Book of Exodus clearly convey the Christian values of resolution and aspiration shown in "leaving Egypt". On the Road to the Red Sea, a door that contains only the light of truth stands to lead believers to love and eternity.
