In response to the UN Water Day, on March 5 in the morning, the Amity Foundation Hong Kong organized the 6th Walk for Living Water (WLW). More than 130 volunteers and 412 walkers attended the event, which took place at the SKH Ma on Shan Holy Spirit Primary School. At the beautiful scenery of the Ma On Shan Promenade the participants advocated for a more sustainable usage of water.

The participants experienced a glimpse of the daily hardships of people who live in mountainous villages in Mainland China when they carried water buckets for about five kilometers. Areas that are excluded of a stable and fresh water supply force people who live there to carry fresh water to their villages every day. Research conducted by Amity shows that water deprived villages also face discrimination and marginalization.

The Water Supplies Department Director Mr Lam Tin Sing and Rev Dr Li Ping Kwong officiated in the opening ceremonies. With the joint involvement of Hong Kong students, policy makers, various organizations and the public the event raised awareness of the water crisis and the need to become more involved in water conservation.

Furthermore, Amity serves those without access to clean water by raising money. With the generous donation of $340,000 given by Rotary Hong Kong Harbour and Taiwan Rotary Club of TaoYuan Southeast for five drinking water purifier systems in primary schools in Yunnan, Amity raised more than $550,000 for building water supply systems on the mainland.

Amity holds Walk for Living Water (愛德活水行)every year responsing to the UN Water day.
