China's very own Amity Foundation gained recognition in the 2016 Annual Report on China's Philanthropy Development.
The said report, released by the Center for Social Policy Studies of the CASS(Chinese Academy of Social Sciences ), co-authored with the Social Sciences Academic Press.
Under the "Ten Hot Philanthropy Topics" in the report, Amity - the only Chinese founding member and a board of ACT Alliance - provided disaster relief assistance to Ecuador after it was struck by a 7.8-magnitude earthquake with the grant fund of about 5.85 million HKD from the Hong Kong government.
Meanwhile, the report also mentions that Amity and China Foundation for Poverty Alleviation have started their global efforts in cementing the presence of Chinse philanthropy globally through new offices in Africa, Europe and South East Asia.
The report also reported other notable Chinese philanthropy pluse those which should be reconsidered. Two groups, for example, exposed serious social issues in Guizhou Province; especially in terms of left-behind children as four siblings committed suicide due to helplessness in the area of Bijie. Another group exposed a man who used web-based charity donations said to be dedicated for 'educational support' as a way to exploit sexually abused young female students.
The report also summarized the total number of philanthropy 2015. According to the report, "by year-end, there were 658,000 social organizations nationwide, an increase of 8.6% over the 606,000 at year-end of 2014. Out of these numbers, 326,000 were membership-based organizations, 4,719 were foundations and 327,000 were private non-enterprises entities."
It also reported that "over 100 million people nationwide (mainland China) were registered as volunteers in 2015 or 7.27% of the national population."
Social donations are anticipated to total CNY 99.2 billion in 2015 and a total value of the society welfare fund is estimated to be CNY 193.2 billion.
