Recently the Amity Foundation plans to co-respond to southern China floods that cause 33 dead and 15 missing as of July 3, with partners from heavily hit provinces. The disaster affects 9.564 million people, inflicting direct economic losses of 18.89 billion yuan. The foundation reports that torrential rain batters central and southern provinces since June 23, resulting in floods, landslides and hailstorms that hit eight provinces including Anhui, Jiangxi, Hubei, Hunan, and Guizhou.
"According to the specific needs of affected people, we will provide them basic food like rice and oil, necessities including anti-mosquito products, toiletries, and hygiene kits, resettlement items such as folding beds and summer quilts as well as production material like compound fertilizer. Amity hopes for joint efforts to make the affected crowd feel not helpless in the face of the disaster and give help to their life so that they can face post-disaster life with confidence." Declares the organization.
Last year heavy rainfall also struck southern China, triggering serious floods. As of August 1, 2016, the foundation poured 4.32 million yuan into the rescue in some provinces, covering about 30934 people. On August 5, the Hong Kong government claimed that it would give a disaster relief fund worth HK$6.309 million through Amity to the affected areas.
