A character training camp for rural left-behind children was opened by the Hangzhou-Taiwan YMCA on July 13, 2017.
The camp is aimed at enriching the summer life of the special group, strengthening the communication between urban and rural children, and developing skills.
The Hangzhou YMCA reported that the camp was held for Tuankou Primary School located in Tuankou County, Linan, Hangzhou, Zhejiang. The project was called one of the ten innovative moral education projects by the local authority of Hangzhou.
Since the primary school became the rural service base of the Hangzhou YMCA in 2011, the charitable organization has funded over 100 financially disadvantaged students and visited more than 80 students' households, donating more than 80,000 yuan. Young volunteers from Hong Kong, Taiwan, and Hangzhou universities devote their time to serve in summer camps for the school each year. The students also join in programs with ethnic features of Taiwan and Hong Kong.
