On March 16, 2019,  "Home of the Reed", a Christian civil charity institute in Zhenjiang, Jiangsu province, along with other organizations held the first local carnival for people with Down syndrome.

The activity marked World Down Syndrome Day which falls on March 21. The number "21" signifies the third copy of chromosome #21.

A mini sports meeting was conducted where down syndrome children competed together with college students. A lecture was given by a child psychiatrist and Christian volunteers on the reality of families with children with the disorder and common psychological problems. The parents were educated on the methods of mood regulation and psychological recovery. In addition, free haircuts and gifts were provided.

The head of the "Home" said that the private non-profit organization that served the disabled and the elderly would cooperate with social services to carry out more services for the special group and their families.

For a long time, children with congenital disease have lived on the fringes of society. Along with social discrimination, their families deal with the pressure of taking care of them. This causes many mental problems.
