On the occasion of World Earth Day, Hangzhou YWCA is rolling out a series of events to motivate people to protect the environment for 31 consecutive days.
With "Planet vs. Plastics" as the theme of World Earth Day 2024, which falls on April 22, the Asia-Pacific Alliance of YMCAs launches a 31-day climate action challenge to tackle climate warming from "Earth Hour" on March 23 to "Earth Day" on April 22, reported Hangzhou YWCA.
In response to it, Hangzhou YWCA motivated people to use discarded plastic bottles to make decorations, such as vases, ornaments, and pendants, with photos submitted.
Besides it, 31 days of activities are being organized, such as turning off the lights for an hour in the evening on the first day; avoiding using disposable items such as plastic straws, bottles, and takeout containers on the 11th day; walking 10,000 steps to pick up 10 pieces of trash on the 22nd day; cooking food using only local ingredients on the 23rd day; and organizing a large-scale cleaning project to rally volunteers to collect plastic waste on the last day.
Participants are requested to post these creative activities each day on social media, such as WeChat moments, Little Red Book (XiaoHongShu), Douyin (TikTok), and Kuaishou.
World Earth Day, which falls on April 22 every year, is a holiday established for global environmental protection, aiming to encourage people to live a low-carbon life and improve the state of the environment.
