On Sept. 30, Dr. Tang Xiaofeng of Institute of World Religions at CASS gave a lecture in Yanjing Theological Seminary. He shared his thoughts towards the present situation of Christianity, including what the politics and academics feel about Christianity and the problems exsiting in the sinicization of Christianity. He believes here lies the way: Christians shouldn't be fettered by public opinion and God's Word be testified by actions.
According to the official website of Yanjing Theological Seminary, Dr Tang Xiaofeng answered the questions about "the function of Christian education" and "sinicization of Christianity" students asked. Besides, he called on universities to open Christian knowledge courses to make Christianity better known to the society.
Last September, China Ethnic News published Tang's article "Who should sinicize Christianity" and it talked about that Christians "testify God's word by actions"
Tang wrote in the article, "Chinese people is a people who emphasize on the unity of knowledge and practice, unlike the western society where religion and knowledge are in key positions. China culture stresses 'justification through faith' and 'reflecting faith through actions'. If a believer can prove the creed perfectly and he or she seems religious, but he or she can't live out Jesus's humility, selflessness, universal love then his or her fatih should "have some discounts" even out of cultural mainstream.
Doctor Tang Xiaofeng mianly studies the history and current situation of China Christianity. His works are A Study of Chinese Protestant Churches after 1978, Study of Zhao Zichen's theology, Xie Fuya's Religious thoughts, Field Study of Chinese Christianity, Study of Christianity in Yuan Dynasty.
