Sanitation workers are important angels who make cities clean while are ignored often. Praised as "yellow roses of cities", "road angels" and "city beauticians", however, they work for at least eight hours per day on average under lots of workload and rarely rest on holidays. Moreover, they have low social status and are often discriminated, abused in poor working conditions. Their salaries are only higher than the local lowest wage standard. Even sometimes accidents happen to them. They are a group who serve cities hard but don't gain the equal honor and value.
This Christmas Wenzhou Yangao Church invited ten sanitation workers to be the guests at the party. The church saluted to them and thanked for their unknown service for cities' cleaning. The presider interviewed them about their inner difficulty and feelings. Rev. Zhu Xiaochun, the senior pastor of the church and co-workers sent Christmas gifts to them: warm silk quilts. Most of them smiled for being given such glory and receiving gifts.
Jesus valued caring grass-root groups during his ministry and the early churches followed Jesus' spirit. Nowadays, Chinese churches are exploring how to care grass-root groups better. It's a good try for Yangao Church to give honor and care to sanitation workers.
