Chinese Original Musical Bible Drama to Start National Tour

The first season of the national tour of the large musical Bible drama "Such Mother-in-law and Daughter-in-law" will be held in Guangzhou, Nanchang and Fuzhou next month.

The original drama adapted from Book of Ruth won praise in it debut in Beijing last Thanksgiving Day. It tells the story of Ruth the Moabite who chose to follow her mother-in-law at the time of the Judges despite the difficult living conditions in the journey and gained a happy marriage for her love and kindness.

Famous musician Shi Song, the founder and producer of the drama, said, "The reason why we chose the story in the Book of Ruth as the theme for the play is because I believe the mother-in-law and daughter-in-law relationship between Naomi and Ruth completely surpasses the normal concept and is regarded as following consistenly and undertaking their responsibility in faith. It also reflects the relationship deficient in our age in brief when it comes to our families. Besides, we're deeply moved by the great love relationship between Ruth and Boaz as it transcends ordinary love, cultures, religions and ethics." He adds that the love expressed by the hero and heroine seems like a gleaming light in that dark age, bringing hope for life to those people at that time and marking a new beginning of a great era.

Li Xionghui, the director of this drama and the vice professional of the Central Academy of Drama, expressed last year that they wanted to feel real life through artistic hearts, who had been getting the nitty-gritty details regarding the stories being played and get every actor or actress to act out the soul of his or her character.

Yang Zejing, the screenwriter, once said, "The biggest core of the drama is the stickness to love and faith. The people in front of the stage and behind it become one through this activity."

It is said that the performance team consists of amateurs from different industries and social fields, who rehearse every evenings and at weekends. The majority of the performers who would go on stage for the first time. In addition, the backstage team is comprised of volunteers.
