On September 4, 2017, the pastoral staff of the CCC&TSPM of Yaodu District, Linfen, Shanxi, came to a special school for students with HIV/AIDS and donated 10,000 yuan to the infected orphans.
Founded in 2006, the Red Ribbon School was formerly a "love classroom" for a ward to treat patients with HIV/AIDS in a local hospital.
It is the only full-time school for HIV/AIDS students in China, having taught more than 40 children. This year the first batch of its students who sat China's college entrance exam were admitted to universities. It currently serves 30 HIV-positive orphans.
Guo Xiaoping, the founder, was honored with the Touching China Award in 2016. China's first lady Peng Liyuan, the World Health Organization (WHO) goodwill ambassador for tuberculosis (TB) and HIV/AIDS, visited the students twice.
The church in Yaodu District has focused on marginalized groups and launched philanthropic projects including aiding the disabled, students, poor people, and orphans for years.
Elder Chen claimed that the church would establish a long-term donor-recipient relationship with the school.
