Today is the Holy Monday, the second day of the Holy Week or Passion Week prior to Easter.
The Xishan Gospel Church in Dalian, Liaoning Province, held a service of reflection and prayer.
Rev. Li Shengsheng taught on the events that actually occurred on the day of the Biblical Holy Monday such as the cleansing of the temple, the healing of the blind and the lame, citing Matthew 21:12-17. He emphasized that the Lord Jesus is Christ and God's son who owns the supreme authority and might nobody could resist.
Afterward, the pastor led the participants to reflect on the events and be aware of the "doves" and "transactions" in their hearts (as they were businesses in the temple). He guided them to pour out their hearts to the Lord in the prayer and to pray for all the diseases that tormented themselves, their families and people they cared about.
In addition, the congregation prayed for a sick pastor who used to serve in local Beijingjie Church and an ill child of a church coworker.
The church will have everyday meetings in the following days of the Holy Week.
Holy Week is a very important event for Christians as this is the time where they remember the last days of Christ's life, from the time he entered Jerusalem to his death and resurrection. The week can be divided into Palm Sunday, Holy Monday, Holy Tuesday, Holy Wednesday, Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, and Holy Saturday. Passages in the Bible about Holy Monday are located in Matthew 21:12-17, Mark 11:15-19, and Luke 19:45-48.
