On August 28, 2019, Professor Jürgen Kursawa will perform an organ recital in Hangzhou Gulou Church of Zhejiang.
According to Gulou Church, born in Bottrop, Germany, in 1959, Jürgen Kursawa studied church music, mathematics, education, organ and piano performance at the conservatories in Cologne and Essen.
From 1975, he worked in Bottrop, Cologne and Dusseldorf as a church musician. From 1992 to 2000, he was a representative church musician in Düsseldorf. During 1996 to 1999, he taught organ playing and improvisation in the Cologne University of Music. In 2000, he was appointed as a cathedral organist in Ruhr and also worked in Essen Minster. As an organ concert musician, he has launched a concert tour in Europe, Asia and the United States. The concert activity also extends to the areas of solo piano, accompaniment and chamber music.
His recent performances were set in cooperation with the Essen Philharmonic Orchestra, Deutsche Oper am Rhein and the Mannheim String Quartet. His CD recordings supplement other content not related to his concert activities.
Since 2009, Jurgen Kursawa has worked as the head of a music department at the Robert Schumann Hochschule Dusseldorf and the managing director of the Institute of Sacred Music.
Hangzhou's Gulou Church was founded by the American Presbyterian Church in 1885 and reopened in 1980.
