A training program themed "Visiting and Caring" was held at a Christian service center to help visitation ministry volunteers do better.
On February 25 at the Ren’ai Love Service Center in Xiamen City, Fujian Province, 95 people participated in this program, including volunteers from each group of the Center, “Time Bank” volunteers, and personnel from logistics and administrative services, according to the Center.
Dr. Feng, a senior psychologist, was invited to this training to share several themes.
During the event, Dr. Feng discussed with participants some topics with real cases. The topics include how to carry out a meaningful visit closely in line with the visit objectives, how to arrange the interval and frequency of visits according to the needs of the visitees, how to define dos and don’ts of the visit, and how to regulate visitor's emotions and release himself if the visitee dies. These visit precautions were part of guidelines for the volunteers to conduct the visit work subsequently.
Next, Dr. Feng went on to share about "resonance and empathy" as visiting skills. The application of this technique would help the volunteers form an alliance with the visitees, which in turn could help both parties explore substantive topics together.
During the training, with his guidance, trainees got to practice the knowledge and skills learned on the spot in an interactive way.
In addition, Feng also analyzed and answered questions about the doubts and confusions that they encountered in work and life from the perspective of a psychologist.
