In order to help more patients with eye diseases to recover, a church in China's southeastern coastal Fujian Province and a local ophthalmic hospital carried out a free eye clinic.
On July 25, Pingnan County CC&TSPM in Ningde City, Fujian Province, joined forces with Huaxia Ophthalmic Hospital and Agape Charities, held a free clinic, general investigation and rescue activities in Chengdong Church of Pingnan County, the county CC&TSPM reported.
On June 29th, Wei Zhongxin and Xiang Zhirong, chairman and president of CC&TSPM, made a decision after research that all pastoral areas should go deep into grass-roots churches and religious places for publication and mobilization, collect information and make a thorough investigation to register patients with eye diseases. They also would liaise with Ningde Huaxia Ophthalmic Hospital and apply for assistance and rescue funds (other than social security funds) from Agape Charities according to patients' life difficulties and disease situations.
To help those in the remote areas of the county enjoy professional optometry services at home, and improve their understanding of eye disease prevention, the expert medical team of the hospital carried out a free ophthalmology clinic on July 25. They provided free fundus examinations, slit lamp examinations, visual acuity examinations, intraocular pressure examinations, autorefraction, blood pressure examinations, and blood glucose examinations for believers and the public who are suffering from cataracts, fundus diseases, and myopia refraction.
These doctors have screened more than 80 patients, conducting laser therapy for one outpatient and treatment for one xerophthalmia patient, with surgery for eight hospitalized patients (five cataract patients and three pterygium patients),
