A church in Fujian held a communion service on Maundy Day, while another church in Liaoning on Good Friday.
At Fuhua Church in Fuqing, Fujian, on April 6, Maundy Day, Rev. Shi Guiming gave a sermon titled "The Passover Lamb and Holy Communion," citing Exodus 12:1-14.
Beginning with the history of the Passover, the pastor explained that during Israel’s departure from Egypt, God helped the Jews escape the plague of the firstborn being killed through the blood of the lamb.
Also at Passover, the Lord Jesus demonstrated the grace of redemption with His precious blood on the cross, bringing peace to the world and new life to people.
Then, the pastor explained that when Israel came out of Egypt, they passed over the disaster with the blood of the lamb as a sign of salvation. At the Passover feast, the Lord became a sacrificial lamb to eliminate sins and save people with His own flesh and blood. Through Jesus’s sacrifice, people could enjoy eternal life.
Based on Corinthians 11:26, Pastor Shi stated that, as a sign of salvation, receiving the Holy Communion also meant that believers were willing to accept this precious salvation and live out the glorious life of Christ.
The servant of God encouraged churchgoers to share the gospel with their families and neighbors, who would be saved from perdition.
After the sermon, the acolytes distributed the bread and cup to believers.
Afterward, the pastor led the congregation in praying for the global churches, world peace, those in power, the marginalized communities, and the ministry of Fuhua Church.
On Good Friday, April 7, another communion service was hosted at Lvhua Street Church in Tiedong District, Anshan City, Liaoning Province.
After reading Matthew 27:32-56, Rev. Yuan Ming, president of the Anshan Municipal Christian Council, delivered a sermon with the title "Jesus Was Crucified", sharing the salvation of the Lord Jesus on the cross.
On the cross, the mystery of the Lord's salvation was revealed, which brought freedom to the people. Jesus died on the cross, and the veil of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom. So there was no longer a gap between man and God, but a new relationship through Jesus, the pastor added.
Following the sermon, Pastor Yuan presided over the communion service.
