More than 230 single Christians attended a social event, which Shamian Christ Church held on July 9.

For the event, Shamian Christ Church invited Pastor Chen Chan, who has more than 20 years of pastoral experience, to share on the topic of “He is the Best Thing That Happened to Me.” Pastor Chen divided her talk into three different aspects: “Marriage in Today's World,” “How to Be Risk-Averse in Choosing Your Spouse,” and “Building a God-Centered Family” to help believers build a correct concept of relationship and marriage.

She pointed out that traditional marriage, as a lifelong commitment between one man and one woman, is God's invention. Therefore, the first step to a happy marriage is to know Jesus; with Jesus, all will be well.

When Pastor Chen talked about how to avoid risks in choosing a spouse, she pointed out that the most important thing is to know what true love is. True love is based on mutual respect, while romantic love is largely based on feelings and lust.

Finally, Pastor Chen emphasized the importance of building a God-centered family, which should be our goal when choosing a spouse.

After Pastor Chen's sharing, it was time for fun games and networking. During this session, all attendees were encouraged to go around and meet new friends by networking with a maximum of nine people.

To help start conversations, attendees were given a list of 15 suggested questions on topics such as “introduce yourself,” “share your faith journey,” “how to be salt and light in your own environment,” “share your hobbies,” and “favorite Christian books or authors.”

A “Leave Him/Her a Message” message wall was set up on one wall of the site, with each participant's name on an envelope. During this session, attendees could also leave messages for other attendees they were interested in and pick up their own envelope after the event.
